FAQ

Q: I am a new mom/ home owner/  pet owner/ concerned consumer/ etc. Are your products really natural, safe and non-toxic?

A: ALL of our products are made with natural or minimally processed ingredients. We do not test our products on animals and list the ingredients of each product on it’s label. Our products are gluten-free, soy-free, and we do not use dyes or synthetic colors or fragrances. Our products are free of phosphates, ammonia, SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) and SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate). Please see our write-up on Borax at the bottom of this page.

Q: Does your Multi Purpose Cleaner and Concentrate disinfect?

A: Our surfactant, Glucopon, is a disinfectant. In-house testing has proven our Multi Purpose Cleaners and Concentrates eliminate the bacteria Staphylococcus Aureus and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa.

Q: Are the New Multi Purpose Cleaners and Concentrates safe for use on my granite countertops?

A: We manufacture our Multi Purpose Cleaner to be PH balanced, and our concentrate to be PH balanced when mixed in our recommended 9:1 ratio of water to concentrate. We strongly recommend testing a small, inconspicuous area of every surface if you are worried about the reaction it may have to a new cleaner.

Q: After using your New Multi Purpose Cleaner I noticed streaks on my windows/ mirrors/ coffee table, how come?

A: Residue left behind from previous cleaners can create a barrier between the glass and our Multi Purpose cleaner. Try using just a small amount of our Multi Purpose to remove the residue, spray the Multi Purpose Cleaner on again in your usual amount and wipe clean. You will only have to do this once when switching to our All Natural Multi Purpose cleaner.

Q: I have soap scum on my shower glass/ fixtures/ drains/ etc., which one of your products will help me clean it up?

A: For soap scum, we recommend using our Concentrated Multi Purpose form in an undiluted form, or in a diluted ratio higher than our recommended 9:1 water to concentrate. Apply our concentrate to a rag or a sponge directly to the surface and let it sit for a few minutes. Scrub it with a no-scratch sponge and rinse thoroughly.

Q: Does your Hardwood Floor Cleaner need to be diluted?

A: We recommend diluting our Hardwood Floor cleaner at 1 cup for every 1 gallon of hot water. It is also safe enough to use undiluted for really tough jobs.

Q: Is your Hardwood Floor Cleaner safe for my UNFINISHED floors?

A: Our Hardwood Floor Cleaner works great on unfinished floors. Natural beeswax in our Hardwood Floor Cleaner leaves a protective barrier and a shine. It’s also gentle and safe enough for pergo and laminated floors.

Q: Why is there a ‘film’ left on my floor after using your Hardwood Floor Cleaner?

A: Natural beeswax in our Hardwood Floor Cleaner will not soak through the finish already applied to your floor. If not diluted enough, water spots and a film can occur. Buffing with a clean towel and properly diluting are the two easiest ways to get rid of and/ or avoid spots and residues.

Q: I’ve heard that borax is a dangerous chemical, is this true?

A: Borax is a naturally occurring salt that forms from seasonal evaporation of lakes and waterways. Borax is also known as sodium borate and is a form of salt. It is a buffer and cleaning booster to the other natural ingredients we use.

Borax becomes a health concern when it is inhaled or consumed repeatedly or in large quantities. It does not absorb well through intact skin.

Borax has a rating of 0 (minimal hazard) on the Hazardous Materials Identification System, an OSHA compliance aid.

The amounts of Borax that we use here at Seaside Naturals as surfactants work out to less than one-fifth of one (1) percent of our Multi Purpose Cleaner. This is extraordinarily less than the amounts found to be toxic to humans.

As a scale of reference, Borax is used at percentages of up to 5% in cosmetics and considered non-irritating, non-toxic in this form. Baking soda is also considered ‘slightly toxic’ according to the World Health Organization, while Borax is found to be ‘not acutely toxic.’

**Borax and ALL cleaning products in the home should be kept out of a child’s reach or a pet’s inquisitive nose.
